Lyrics

This is the concrete tower representing the power that it stands for.
This is the stack that blows smoke high above heads to another shore.
This is the cloud of wealth made from a lump of coal,
It burns and billows and leaves a black footprint in the snow.

And it grows, grows, grows, grows. And it grows, grows, grows, grows.

This where the unemployed need a job, but jobs are short so they scream for thousands more.
This is where everyone wants a piece of it and feels it's worth fighting for.
This is where a young Iranian wants to grow up and drive a nice car –
just like an American.
This is the oil-stained dream, and how it grows.

And it grows, grows, grows, grows.

This where a farmer learned to trust the field...
Puts his back into the dirt that sprouts into a miraculous meal
This where a multinational cha-chings in, engineers seeds to control everything –
Takes from the soil and this is how it grows.

And it grows, grows, grows, grows.

These are the lines on the doorway next to my fridge.
Each pencil mark represents a year for each one of my kids.
This is a witness to every line and wrinkle that shows.
This is just one house out of a million that struggle and grows.

And it grows, grows, grows, grows.
